So am I missing something here?   While everyone in the sports world has recently decided to go out and buy a Lower Merion high school jersey, I think we have to take a step back.  I am clueless as to why he is getting praise for completely hogging the ball from his teammates.   Phil Jackson has to be ashamed of himself today and I would hope Stern sits him down.  In my opinion, the Lakers franchise has hit rock bottom allowing this punk to take that many shots.

I mean think about how easily LeBron could score that many points right now given the state of our team.  Think...Newble, Henderson, Sasha have recently been starters.  If this wasn't the time for LeBron to top Wilt, well then I must be nuts.

Sorry about the rant there, but I know I am not the only one who thinks this is absurd so I did a little searchin of the net.  This article from Real GM, while purely fiction, was the first online publication to backlash against this overhyped feat.  Graham Flashner wrote this article at 3:30am last night and it's awesome.  Enough sarcasm to make the Onion proud. Here's a bit:

"In an unprecedented move that Phil Jackson hopes will get L.A. into the playoffs, the team has announced that Kobe will be taking every shot of every game, as long as he’s on the floor, for the remainder of the season. The new scheme, dubbed the “Bryangle” offense, comes on the heels of Bryant’s 81-point explosion against Toronto. It will mean that no Laker will be allowed to shoot except under special circumstances... “I’m real excited,” Bryant confided. “It’s what I’ve always dreamed.”

Honestly, I'd choose our 'star' any day of the week...

I'd like to see him do that when NBA players used to be good. There are so many damn scrubs in the NBA today, and the Olympics proved that, anybody can easily score 80 plus points if you HOG the ball! Kobe's no legend. Just another jock who looks good playing with scrubs.

I have to somewhat disagree.  I mean, yeah, he took 46 shots.  But he made 28.  That's called a good shooting percentage.  I think that pouring it on like Kobe did every game would be bad- after all, you can't shoot that many and make that many all the time.  However, as a one-off deal, Kobe was smart.  He was en fuego, and was making tons of shots.

Besides, who else is gonna score?  Smush Parker?  Lamar Odom? Chris Mihm?  Kwame Brown?

Please see http://www.82games.com/pelton13.htm to see more info regarding Kobe being a "ballhog" and Kobe's value to the Lakers.

But LeBron is still the man, of course.  I'm just saying don't knock the number 2.  Hell, we can even call him Clyde.

I have to weigh in on this argument because what Kobe did was amazing, awesome and I wish I was there to witness it.  He is undoubtably the best player in the NBA.  Better than Duncan, better than Dirk, better than KG, better than AI and yes... BETTER than LEBRON.  He proved it in the Lakers v. Cavs game last week.  He hit clutch shots and is the most dominating force on the court.  He can score, he can defend, he can shoot (high %).  The one area he is not #1 is in passing, but like Paulev previously stated "who will he pass too?"  I am not a Kobe fan, but what he did was unbelievable.  Not even Jordan scored as consistantly as Kobe is.  Kobe is good, not great.  As for Phil, Phil loves it.  He needs help this offseason from the front office and this is more proof why Kwame Brown and Mihm suck.  Phil had to let Kobe go off because nobody else on that team can and after sitting Kobe the last time he had a monster game (62 pts. in 3 qtrs v. Dallas) he had to let his star take over.  Kobe... you da man... for one night at least.

Kobe is not better than LBJ though.  I mean, yeah he scores more and yeah he is more clutch right now.  But LeBron is a better board man, better passer, and better teammate.  All the other stuff LBJ will learn to do later.  So if you want scoring, go with Kobe.   But if you want all around (ala Jordan, despite complaints that he only scored) then go with the Chosen One.

Just remember, this is Kobe's 10th season and Lebrons 3rd.  Where was Kobe at in his 3rd season.  He may be better at this point, but in the long run LeBron will blow him away.  Let go Cavs, 2 in a row!!

Take a look at this regarding the Crisp deal:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/01/23/source_sox_agree_to_crisp_deal/

My take: As good as Crisp is, he is surplus to requirements.  He plays left field, not center.  He is not really a leadoff hitter (remember that try two years ago and last year before Sizemore??).  Marte is a potential stud.  Atlanta thought highly of him, but his place at 3B was blocked and they needed a SS.  Crisp is exciting, but is replacable from a numbers perspective.  On the other hand, we have a whole at 3B next year (Boone) or 2B (which Boone could move to if he stays).  Also, and most importantly, Marte is a right handed power bat that could balance out Pronk.

I think the Crisp deal will work to our benefit.  Remember a few years ago when that Tribe traded Colon for two unknowns named Sizemore and lee.  Fans were up in arms... what could front office be thinking.  And Marte could be ready for the majors next year.  Coco is a crowd favorite, but if we want to keep this team competitive for years to come, we need power on the infield corners.

And Paul... you have got to be kidding about Boone at second.  You really think his legs will hold up or move fast enough to play the hole, especially with an average defensive shortstop in the middle with him.  I think you move Boone to first, where his lack of speed won't come into play.

Let's see ow some of our outfield prospects workout before we're quick to judge.  I'm excited to see what the Tribe can do this summer.

And of course, Go Cavs.

Boone is fairly athletic.  I mean, we make it by with Ronnie.  He doesn't have the greatest range either, but he turns a mean double play and makes all the routine ones.  I am pretty sure Boone, who has played 2B before pretty well, can do that too.
