Random Tidbits

So I went searching for the origin of LeBron's main nickname - "King" and all I got was about 200 search results for King James Bible.  But I did find this little tidbit of when he got the name:

In James's junior year, he averaged 29 points and 8 rebounds and was once again named Mr. Basketball Ohio in addition to his spot on the All-USA First Team. It was then that his nickname "King" James would become a household staple.

So that is that.  If you aren't content with the nickname "King" then this is your chance to re-write history (well maybe not but you can create one of your own).

Also, photos just popped up of the famous William Wesley with Bron Bron

So last night..sucked.  And my buddy Paul has a little review:

It all started so good.  The Cavs got off to a hot start, led by Drew Gooden (who is now apparently on the trading block according to that article).  He was a monster early in the game on the offensive glass.  The Knicks couldn't make a shot.  All of a sudden though, the Knicks climbed back into the game.  So it became a dog fight for the rest of the first half- neither team could make a run and pull away.

And it started like that in the third.  LeBron was en fuego.  The guy couldn't miss.  He was raining jumpers in from everywhere.  The Cavs were able to get a double digit lead and take over, and the D was playing great.  But it was a mirage.  Z had foul trouble and no one else could make a shot.  The Knicks slowly crawled back into it. and with about six minutes to go in the fourth took control.  And then the lights went out on C-land's offense.

If I have one complaint about the Cavs - which is exacerbated by the absence of L. Hughes - is that the offense occassionally breaks down and becomes all LBJ, all the time.  Don't get me wrong, that is great to watch sometimes.  But a team can totally stop that.  Double the King, no one else moves, everyone is missing, and people become tenative.  Which is what happened last night.  After LeBron took control in the third, the team went cold.  The Knicks basically took the game away from Bron by doubling the screen roll, forcing the ball from LBJ, and making someone else beat them.  Normally, that doesn't work- the rest of the team moves and gets open looks, especially down low.  But last night, we shot too many threes again- at least 26.

Therein lies the problem.  We have three ball shooters now, but they love to shoot that shot so much, they don't move when LBJ has the ball.  They expect LBJ to drive and either score or dish.  But its hard to dish when no one moves- three men can easily guard 4.   And I'm not complaining about Damon Jones, the third most popular hoops player in China.  No, his shot was off, but he shot three balls last night within the context of the offense, so I live with the misses.  I mean you Donyell Marshall.  You are always camping by the three line.  Step in a few feet sometimes.  Get a nice 19 footer which you can drain.  Then teams have to respect you all over the court.  Plus, I suspect your three point percentage will go up too.

So last night hurt.  With a six game road trip on the West Coast looming, a W before getting out of town (which would of put us 10 above .500, too) would have been really nice.

Oh and I am sorry, but I am not the only one who thinks the Browns bring more pain than humanly possible.

With regards to Drew's trade status, that rumor has been going around.  Why?  For all his offensive glass and offensive productivity, that would be easily replaced by Anderson and Donyell.  Plus, he is a poor defender (he tries hard, but is always in the wrong place) and not such a good defensive rebounder, where position matters more than activity.

Problems:

1) Anderson is not back just yet.
2) He has an expiring contract, making him extra valuable.
3) He cannot be traded to an Eastern Conference contender or team otherwise in the Cavs strata.

According to Windhorst, the Cavs would be inclined to trade Drew is someone else took Snow too and his big contract.

We should have gotten Earl "the Pearl" Watson this offseason.  DJ has been a bust and its good he's getting out of town.  Maybe he'll understand why the hometown fans boo, when he gets cheered in other arenas for sucking so bad.  Best shooter in the world, the handsome one, the three symbol on a platter... it's all 428.  At least the leg kick is effective because he is so god damn slow.  We are stucks with DJ for the rest of his career and it sucks.  Trade Snow, Gooden and Newble.  Bring in a slashing PG and another big.  We need to make a change real soon.

As for coach Brown.  He needs to stop blowing smoke up the Kings ass.  I am getting a little tired of it.  I mean Jordan didn't win scoring titles and become the best scorer ever until years 4+ in his career.  Lebron is the man and I love what he brings to the floor every night, but Lebron... play some frickin' D.  Sure he plays the passing lanes and gambles for steals, but just shut your man down.  Stop his penetration and stop worrying about getting the steal, starting the fast break that leads to a thunder dunk.  He needs to become a better all around player.  He'll be compared to Michael, but not the Michael he wants... Michael Redd would be more like it.

I believe I clamored most for Earl Watson.  Damon isn't bad, he really isn't.  The shooting has gone cold, but he is taking good shots as of late.  And he is pretty good on off the ball D (Mike Brown said this, I watched Damon, and agreed with Brown).  But he can't guard the ball, and isn't a penetrator/ball handler.  That's what this team needed the most.
