And the trade deadline has now come and gone. While the ABJ,
Mike Brown & Danny Ferry said nothing was in the works, I was still
hopeful. But apparently they weren't kidding. The team is
pretty much intact (well if by intact you mean chalked full of
injuries). The only news out of Thurs was the acquisition of Ronald 'Flip' Murray
from Seattle for little Mike Wilks, a second-round pick and
$500,000. NBA front-office sources say the deal, which is
awaiting league approval, is expected to be announced later Thursday.
And that..is it..
UPDATE: Since I wrote this, we picked up Lee Nailon & a
2006 2nd round draft pick from the 76ers for our 2006 2nd round pick. Lee has
been around as he is averaging a new team each year. Lee will be
backing up Drew and Anderson.
And thanks to ESPiN, here is a brief history of our nomadic 2006 2nd round pick:
The second-round pick that Cleveland sent to Philadelphia has now been traded three times. Cleveland originally sent it to Orlando in a deal for Martynas Andriuskevicius, then got it back from Orlando in a swap for the second-round pick the Cavs received from the Bucks in the Jiri Welsch trade. By acquiring Philadelphia's pick, the Cavs also acquire the option to swap second-round picks with New Jersey -- a remnant of an earlier Marc Jackson trade in which he went from the 76ers to the Nets.

Ok, Leblog-master, that is not a little deal. Flip Murray is a scorer at the two position. He can put it in the hole by driving to the hoop, and he also has a consistent jumper. He played exteremely well last year when Jesus Shuttlesworth was out of the Sonics lineup. I like this pick-up alot, as it gives us flexibility at the two. Great Job Cavs.
We also picked up Lee Nailon for a second round draft pick. Nothing special, although he represents more a scoring option as a big man.
Another bonus: he probably has a one year contract. That means Lee + Flip = around $1.5- $2 million. That plus Drew leaving at the end of the season opens up some salary cap space.
Yes, I am aware of his skills at #2, but Sasha has been producing those numbers and will be fine. Once again we failed to pick up a PG and that is my disapointment. Let's hope I am wrong and everything all of a sudden clicks.
No PG was available at the price. Flip Murray is a no-risk player who is an upgrade. Great deal.
What do we really gain. We now have another average SG with a decent scoring average and a career 27% 3pt percentage. This moves Damon as our backup PG and now we basically have a ton of people at 2 and 3 spot. I am very curious of how this is going to play out. It was hard enough for Mike Brown to give appropriate time to Luke and Sasha. It basically took a freakin injury for him to figure that one out.
If we would have taken their 3rd string SG - Damien Wilkins than I am all for that trade. Gotta support the AK.
