I hate to do this, but I have to put my two cents in on "The Reason Ohio State Won The National Championship."

Cent 1- I want to wrap my hands around the guy's neck sometimes.  Especially regarding the Troy Smith fiasco.  But I'll say it a thousand times, if he wanted to come back and play for OSU next year and the school decided to let him, I wouldn't complain and you wouldn't either.  He's a head case, but how many other sports head-cases have brought championships to their team.  Not Moss, not Artest, OK Kobe, but he wasn't a head case just yet and when he was, they lost.  Clarett has raw talent, he has "field vision" which makes up for his lack of speed.  Read this article about his training regiment leading up to and during the combine.  I'm not saying that he should make excuses (which he didn't in post-combine interviews), but I am saying you don't always have to believe your eyes.  The end of the article says, all it takes is one believer.  Don't be surprised if Mo has another ring on his finger someday.

Cent 2- Why is Mo a headcase?  LeBron James folks, hear me out.  While LeBron was signing $90 million contracts and waiting to find out where he would start his pro career, Mo was winning a championship.  The two of them hung out a good deal, before and after all of the drama (Jaron Kanfer watched LSU whoop OU at LBJ's pad with LeReal Answer and Clarett).  Not to hate on LBJ, it's not his fault.  But I truly believe that Clarett was pissed b/c he had proven himself already and was still "borrowing" floor models and working bullshit landscaping jobs for rent money.  He wanted to be a star too.

All it takes is a believer.  I hate the schmuck, but that doesn't mean he can't play football.  Mo will always hold a special place in my heart, and on my old roommates national championship ring

Hey man- I realize as much as anyone that Clarett was instrumental in leading us to the promised land.  For that, I will never hate him.  But whatever you say, the guy is still an idiot.  I mean, you can't defend his actions after his freshman year.  Look at his current performance at the combine.  Sure, the poor 40 yard times are bad. But his decision to quit the combine after the 40 runs is even worse.  In the age of the "Patriots", teams may overlook pure athletic talent and focus on football skills.  But you better have the heart of a warrior.  Champions don't quit when the chips are down.  Clarett, time and time again, has always quit- at Ohio State (after Tressel offered him a chance back), at his first combine experience (when he barely participated), at the All-Star challenge in which he declined to participate, and at his second combine experience.  When are you going to learn to stop looking just at what Clarett did in one good glorious year and start judging him by his overall record?

Chris Rock said in reference to O.J. Simpson, "I'm not saying he should've killed her, but I understand."

I didn't mean to defend Clarett's actions.  His actions are not justified and he keeps digging himself a bigger hole with every ESPN headline.  I'm not saying he was right, but I understand.

I just think that he has more of a future than any analyst or fan is predicting.  If I had some mediocre running backs, like oh, say... William Green and Lee Suggs, I might take a chance on the kid in a late round and let him return punts for a year.  I think in a few years, 31 owners might possibly, maybe could be kicking themselves for not trying to understand the method to Mo's madness.

I do agree that he's an idiot.  I just think he's an idiot who might still have some potential.
