Random Recap 1: Not bad, not bad at all

Welcome back everyone..

So here goes random recap #1 as I attempt to cover the past week that was Ohio..in the world of sports:

****Obviously, the top story of the week was LeBron on The Simpsons.  I mean how cool is that.  It takes people their whole lives to get on there but only took LeBron 20 LeAkron years to do it.  Also, the King aired his first Bubblicious ad, which was good, but no Chamber of Fear or Sunday Sermon with Bernie Mac.  Actually, my favorite commercial was him just nonchalantly nailing beyond half court shots.  In case you missed it, check it out heya (also some nice little commentary at the end – what a pimp).

welcome to the big leagues LBJ

****For the second year in a row, Mike Vrabel finds his way into the end zone and now is tied with Michael “I am way too hyper at 11am” Irvin for 2 career TD’s in the Super Bowl.  Not too shabby for a Linebacker, who switched from playing Defensive End at OSU.  Vrabel was the lone Buckeye on the field Sunday and made his home (LeAkron) quite proud.
One final stat:  He has five career catches - all for touchdowns (good teaching Cooper).

****Immediately after the Pats attained Dynasty mode in Tecmo Bowl, the Browns phoned Romeo Crennel to close the deal on becoming their new head coach.  To be honest, the guy has a big task, but it won’t be hard for Romeo to overshadow Butch and become the man in Cleveland.  It seems like this guy could do alright and I guess 5 Super Bowl rings isn’t bad to have on the resume.  For one thing, I will be happy to rid the city of that awful, awful Hurricane influence.  Now let’s dump Garcia and bring in another QB to date Playboy Models.

****Once again the Bucks had an outstanding recruiting class.  Ending up with the 3rd best recruits in the Big Ten and ranked anywhere from 7th to 13th nationally is remarkablegiven all that is going on with the program (thxESPiN).  Some of the names you will hear next year include:
Maurice Wells – As a junior, led the state of FL in rushing with 3076 yds and 31 TDs.
Jamario O’Neal – Chris Gamble type player going both ways and scouted as having a very good ‘feel for the game’
Lawernce Wilson – attended same high school as LeBron and NE Ohio Def POY.
Alex Boone – all state past 2 seasons and the #3 overall offensive linemen in the nation.
**Also, LeAkron RB Chris Wells committed as the first recruit for OSU’s ‘06 class.

****For the third time in the last three weeks, UC basketball has had a chance to tie or win a game in the closing seconds.  All three times, the Bearcats called a timeout, set up a play, came out and missed the shot.  Ahhh…

****And finally, theee Seth MacFarlane came to speak at OSU, where he unveiled the first public showing of Family Guy - Season 4 – Episode 1.  He also mentioned a straight to DVD movie staring Stewie which will be coming out in the spring.  Also, one more bit of juicy gossip: The Fighting Chicken is back as is the Angry Monkey (woo hoo!!)
I wonder if anyone gave a little OH to Seth..one can only wonder as a freaking old alumni.

well that’s a wrap for the week in Ohio Sports..see ya kids

c'mon, where's mention of bucks recruit, brian robiskie, from chagrin falls?  even thought i'm cheering for him, i still say "GO BLUE!"  get ready for ann arbor battle in Nov.  i hope i see a pic of you and king of akron in your blog by year's end!

* Bio: Robiskie, son of Browns interim head coach Terry Robiskie, had 38 catches for 643 yards (16.9 average) and 10 touchdowns during the regular season for Chagrin Falls. Earned first-team All-Ohio honors in Division IV. His team finished the year 9-3 after a loss to eventual state champion Youngstown Mooney in the second round of the Division IV playoffs. He also had three interceptions on defense. Robiskie caught nine touchdowns in only seven games as a sophomore and caught 50 balls for 743 yards as a junior. He is ranked as the No. 33 senior in Ohio by Ohio High. SuperPrep ranked him as the No. 31 prospect in Ohio and as the No. 78 prospect in the Midwest. Will play in the Ohio All-Star Classic. He picked Ohio State over Miami (Fla.) and Stanford. Holds a 3.6 GPA and scored an 1100 on the SAT.

* Long On Robiskie: “Brian Robiskie is a big bodied wide receiver. He is not a possession guy. He runs great routes and uses his body well to fend off defenders. He has those little intangibles. He fights for the ball. He is going to get bigger and stronger. He has surprising speed. I would regard getting him this late in the process as a coup.”

I don't own a television, I don't read the papers.  So how was I supposed to know about LeBron on the Simpsons?  Finally there is a blog that covers real news.  A source for information that is vital to my life.  Thanks for the updates Matt.

While I am happy to read a mention of my Bearcats... they are plenty of good things to write about them.  They are the best college team in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana.  A fact proven by extensive research done over a period of 12 years at the Rand Corporation with the worlds top scholars and scientists.
